Hamstring Sensor Setup

With your subject lying down, mark the following anatomical landmarks on the leg: the greater trochanter and the lateral joint line of the knee.

Using a tape measure, determine the mid point between these two anatomical points and mark this mid point on the lateral aspect of the thigh.

Ask your subject to tense their fine musculature with their foot dorsiflexed. Then place the DAP on the lateral aspect of the thigh while the muscle is being tensed. Make sure that the DAP is placed parallel, the sensor though is placed parallel to the bench and that the blue pegs on the sensor point upwards and bisect the line that you previously drew.

Repeat this for the other leg. Then place a strap around the leg that is not being tested. The strap should be tightened at the mid thigh level to prevent the movement of this leg while the other leg is being raised. Make sure that the strap is at the mid thigh level and is not over the kneecap.

It is also possible to use a Zimmer splint on the leg that is being raised to hold the knee in extension. This is an addition optional tool that can be used.
