Starting a Low Back Monitoring session

Last Updated: Jul 10, 2018 06:01AM UTC
The Low Back Monitoring session can be used by clinicians to observe the effects of everyday life on the movement patterns of their client. This module allows clinicians to better understand what may be contributing to a client's pain or injury by observing exactly how the client is moving while they are out of the clinic. It is recommended that you perform a Low Back Live Assessment prior to performing a Monitoring session.

1. From the client list screen, select the client you would like to test and select “New Test”. Following the onscreen prompts, select “Low Back” then “Monitoring”.

2. Push the button on the side of the dorsaVi Professional Suite sensors to turn them on. From the sensor selection screen, tap on the sensors with the corresponding serial numbers.

3. Peel the Sensor Adhesives off the adhesive roll and apply to the back of the dorsaVi Professional Suite sensors.

4. Locate the PSIS by palpating the superior aspect of the iliac spine. When located, mark the PSIS by drawing small circles over them.

5. Use a ruler to draw a horizontal line through the centers of the PSIS circles and place the pelvic (lower) sensor on the body in landscape orientation directly underneath the line.

6. Using the Low Back fitment template, place the upper sensor on the client so it sits at T12/L1 level. Ensure the sensor is placed in landscape orientation.

7. Once the sensors are attached, place the Sensor Overwraps over sensors, ask the client to bend forward and press down firmly on the sensors.

8. Next, select “I attached both sensors” in the dorsaVi Professional Suite app.

9. Following the on-screen prompts, ensure the top sensor is flashing green and the bottom sensor is flashing blue on the client. If this is correct, select “Yes” in the dorsaVi Professional Suite app. If the colours are the wrong way select “No, swap colors”.

10. On the calibration screen follow the on-screen prompts to ensure correct calibration of the dorsaVi Professional Suite sensors.

11. Select whether to set goals for the client. If “Set Goals” is selected, proceed to step 12. If “Do Not Set Goals” is selected, proceed to step 13.

12. Set the total monitoring time for the client's session using the “Monitoring Length” slider. Next, set the client goals for the total amount of time they should spend standing, sitting, active and lying down using the sliders below. Use the “more than” and “less than” to identify the goals that the client should try to exceed (more than) or stay under (less than). When ready to proceed, select “Set Goals”.

13. Review your Monitoring session and if ready to proceed select “Start Monitoring”.

14. The client is now ready to leave the clinic and begin their Low Back Monitoring session. On this screen you can sync your data and invite the client to use mydorsaVi so they can track their activity levels and record pain alerts.
