Lower Limb Sensor Setup for Running and Knee
This is the sensor placement for the lower limbs, used for applications such as running and knee control.
First prepare the area on the lower legs. Use an alcohol swab to clean the skin, removing any oil, dirt, or lotion.
Using the ruler provided, place the back of the ruler at the inferior border of the medial malleolus on the left leg. Then, using the pen, mark a horizontal line on the tibia of the appropriate height demarcation found on the ruler. Mark the horizontal line on the tibia itself, also it is a good idea to mark a vertical line at the same level on both the medial and lateral borders of the tibia. This ensures that the center placement is on the bony tibia itself. Repeat this process for the right leg.
Following the prompts from the software, place the sensors on the shin, making sure that the line marked on the shin bisects the pegs on the DAP. Make sure that when placing the sensors on both the left and right legs, that the blue pegs face to the subject's left of both legs. Make sure that the sensors are placed vertically on the tibia and on the tibia itself, not on the surrounding soft tissue. Ensure that both the left and right sensors are placed at equal heights on the shin.
If additional fixation is needed to secure the sensors, either fixemol can be used to hold the sensors in place, pre wrap can be wrapped around the sensors or calf sleeves can be placed on the subject's lower leg.
It is important to choose the correct DAPs for the test that you are going to be doing. If the subject is doing a knee control test or running in a climate controlled environment and for a short period of time, then the thirty minute DAPs can be used. However, if the subject is going to run outside either for a long period of time or in hot and humid conditions, then use the longer wearing 24 hour DAPs.
